What is B/SS 50/50?

A commitment, a challenge and a goal for the race and the Fortuna Sports Club, to encourage more women to take up running.

This commitment, challenge and goal involve reflecting, learning, and implementing strategies to achieve more equal representation in the Behobia.

What began as a target for 2025, is now established as an ongoing process, a challenge which goes beyond the number itself, aiming to heighten awareness and engage in initiatives to foster the required social change, and so make this goal of integration a reality.

Why are we doing it?

Because other major races in the world have achieved it.

Because the removal of physical or legal barriers to women's involvement which existed just a few decades ago, has not meant the disappearance of cultural and social factors that feed into gender stereotypes discriminating against women in practice, as seen in the number of girls and young women giving up the sport.

Because we aim to publicise this reality, to learn, reflect and help bring about change.

What are we doing?

  1. Internal analysis: Discover what we can change in our communication, to make the BSS an event for all. Examples:
    • Revision of photographs website images of the race, magazine, social media...
    • Change terminology: change "Runner's bag", "Runner's Fair" for "THE RACE... Bag, Fair"
    • Early start for elite women to raise the visibility of women in the media.
  2. Studies: Collaboration and studies with experts to diagnose the current situation and detect best practices in the fostering of sport among women.
  3. Training groups: Proyecto BIZIKI. Fostering physical activity through a training group open to all levels.
